Because of the wet weather and clouds predicted for Saturday, April 29, 2023 we are canceling the free, public open house we had planned for tomorrow night — itself a postponement because of the clouds on the previous Saturday.
We will try again in the fall.
This is what the GFS forecast is producing for a forecast of average cloud cover for 8 pm EDT Saturday (00:00 Sunday, Universal Time, aka Zulu time) in the mid-Atlantic sector. White means ‘Overcast’.

Oh no!! What a shame. Thank you for updating, I look forward to fall then.

Hello! I had been to Hopewell Observatory many years ago when I was very young, so when my boyfriend asked if I knew where we might be able to go stargazing on our anniversary, the only place that I knew existed was Hopewell. Come to do some digging to make the date and found out that we just missed the open house, and alas, it was cancelled. I’m leaving a comment in lieu of not being able to find a functional website or email to contact someone with; I understand that the observatory is not perpetually available to the public, nor is it perpetually free to access. Is there any ability to arrange a date to come to the observatory? My partner has been an avid star gazer all his life, but I don’t think he’s ever had the opportunity to use any professional telescopes. He’d be elated to talk shop about astronomy, and I personally have been having lots of fun getting to know the cosmos more intimately.
I’ve signed up to be notified when there is a response to this post, so please let me know if there’s any way we can come to the observatory. All the best,
Opal.
